Songwriter and artist Kristy Krüger has an extensive history in music that spans classical, jazz, traditional country, folk, and rock genres. Throughout the course of her career as a pianist and composer, Krüger won a multitude of state, national, and international awards for jazz and classical composition and performance. When she shifted gears into the world of the singer/songwriter, she brought a broad spectrum of influences with her, ranging from Hank Williams, Sr. to Miles Davis as she criss-crossed the country, touring alone for over six years. Her untraditional jazz-influenced approach to folk music has carried her throughout the United States, and secured her status as a favorite in her hometown of Dallas, Texas. The Dallas Morning News says she has grown into one of the most eclectic singers in the area, citing her as a "female Tom Waits." Krüger has also received two nominations for Best Acoustic Act and recently won the 2006 Dallas Observer Music Award from Dallas' leading entertainment weekly for Best Female Vocalist. KRISTY KRUGER

THE REVIEWS COME IN - MAY 16 -

From the Palm Beach Post:

"I loved Wrong Side of Memphis, from the Hearts in Armor album, and on Walkaway Joe, her duet with Don Henley, Yearwood invited Jon Randall on stage to sing Henley's part. Randall and Jessi Alexander, who wrote the song Baby Don't You Let Go on Jasper County, opened for Yearwood, performing without a band, just the two of them and their guitars. The crowd listened politely until Randall performed Whiskey Lullaby, the song he co-wrote with Bill Anderson and which Brad Paisley and Allison Krause made a No. 1 hit. The crowd came alive, cheering for one of the most heart-wrenching ballads ever written. Most of the audience had never heard of Randall or Alexander but their set was the perfect appetizer."

ASSOCIATED PRESS - JANUARY 4th - Associated Press reviews unnoticed albums from 2005:

Jon Randall, ‘Walking Among the Living’

Except for a few largely unnoticed albums, Jon Randall has played the role of an anonymous Nashville sideman and songwriter for the past 15 years. Then along came the Country Music Association’s song of the year, “Whiskey Lullaby,” that he wrote with Bill Anderson, followed by “Walking Among the Living,” and — lo and behold — he’s a singer-songwriter. And a darn listenable one at that.

With an effortless tenor comparable to Vince Gill’s, it’s a wonder it has taken this long for him to earn a spot with a major label. The album is steeped in traditional country/bluegrass with a sparse, largely acoustic accompaniment. One high point on a CD with no low points is the poignant “North Carolina Moon,” begun 15 years ago by Randall’s father and completed by the son. Sonya Isaacs’ harmony completes a lovely package.

Randall’s version of “Whiskey Lullaby” is more somber than the Brad Paisley-Alison Krauss hit version, darkened by a cello and string section accompaniment — the only violins on an album otherwise full of fiddles.

Along with Isaacs, he’s joined on the album by Patty Loveless in the ultimate cheating song, “I Shouldn’t Do This” and by Krauss on the solemn “No Southern Comfort.”

While ballads are his forte, Randall can be compared to the Eagles on the lilting “Long Way Down” and shows his rockabilly side on “Austin” in an album that’s notable not only by his performances but by the range of songs — all but one with his name on it.

The lone exception is “My Life” by R.L. Castleman, who penned “The Lucky One” for Krauss. It’s an uptempo delight on which he’s joined in a “new grass” jam by Sam Bush, Bela Fleck and John Cowan.    —Tom Gardner

“MOON” SHINES FOR JON RANDALL AFTER 15 YEARS
Jon Randall received a little songwriting help from an unlikely source on “North Carolina Moon,” a track off his upcoming album ‘Walking Among the Living’ (out September 20th on Epic).

“My father was a police officer by profession, but he is also one hell of a songwriter. A few years ago, I found a chorus and part of a verse that he had written tucked away in an old notebook. He’d given it to me when I was in high school. I had forgotten all about it. So I sat down and finished the song 15 years later,” explains Randall.

“I know he’s my dad, and I’m partial, but for a guy that was a police officer, he wrote old-style country and bluegrass songs that were brilliant,” Randall adds. Dad Ronnie Stewart even receives a songwriting credit in the album’s liner notes.

NASHVILLE FEB 16th
- Compass Records Announces the Launch of Hands Across the Water with Vince Gill, Altan, Paul Brady, Alison Brown and others!!
* This unprecedented collaboration benefits victims of the natural disasters in Southeast Asia *

NASHVILLE, TN - In this global community, friendships and the exchange of information extend beyond conventional boundaries. The latest statistics regarding the disaster in Southeast Asia are instantaneously conveyed via satellite link ups and web bogs. This combination of tragedy and technology inspired Andrea Zonn and John Cutliffe to establish the Hands Across the Water project. They have gathered a formidable group of musicians from America, Ireland and the UK to record a CD to benefit Save the Children.

Zonn is one of Nashville’s most beloved musicians, both as a solo artist and contributor to albums and tours by such artists as James Taylor, Vince Gill, Lyle Lovett, Alison Brown, and many others. Her collaborator and close friend John Cutliffe is similarly well-known behind the scenes as a musician, tour manager, and webmaster of Jigtime.com, a site that chronicles both Irish and American roots music.

Hands Across The Water has secured the support of Vince Gill, Altan, John Prine, Maura O’Connell, Eddi Reader, Paul Brady, Beth Nielson Chapman, Sharon Shannon, Alison Brown, Lúnasa, Jim Lauderdale, Pauline Scanlon, Jerry Douglas, John Cowan, Jon Randall, Darrell Scott, Ciaran Tourish, Sam Bush, Tim O’Brien, and more.

“I think the connections that exist in our musical and social circles are powerfully symbolic of a greater global unity,” says Zonn. “We are fortunate to count some of the finest musicians in Ireland, Scotland and America among our friends,” Cutliffe, from Buncrana, adds. “And our friends have friends. The bond of music ripples outward into the world, and we’re calling on our friends to contribute their gifts to help those so desperately in need right now.”
